Irish Derby.

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Sunday Jun 29th, 2008

New Approach looks set to complete an historic horse races double when he lines up for the Irish Derby at the Curragh on Sunday.

Jim Bolger’s colt famously claimed the English version of the classic at the beginning of the month and there looks to be very little to stop him repeating his victory at the weekend.

With the unstoppable Henrythenavigator missing the race after shining again at Royal Ascot it’s a form study dream as New Approach will face many of his rivals he put to the sword as Epsom. Like himself the 3-year-old’s opponents have not raced since that day in Epsom which means there is nothing to suggest that the form shown in Surrey on the 7th of June will be reversed here.

On that Derby day Princess Haya of Jordan’s horse beat home Tartan Bearer by half a length and Sir Michael Stoute’s charge will again be among the entries and connections will hope that he is quicker into stride to put down a better challenge.

Third at Epsom and third in the betting for Sunday is Casual Conquest who was the beaten favourite in the English Classic Horseracing event finishing five lengths back.

Then his inexperience got the better of him and he may come on from that outing. At a bigger price Doctor Freemantle offers decent each way value after a good 4th in the horse racing Derby and consistent showing prior to that.

Bet on horseraces.

I would just like to write an article on what I believe is 3 of the best ever racing horses to grace our tracks. You can now bet on horseraces online.

Nijinsky
Nijinsky won all of his five races as a two-year-old and also secured the traditional Triple Crown (2,000 Guineas, Derby, and St Leger) in 1970 – the last horse to do so. Also in that same season he won the Irish Derby, Queen Elizabeth Diamond stakes and the king George. If you were doing the horse racing betting and picked Nijinsky, you were sure to make a few quids.

Shergar
The infamous Shergar trained by top trainer Sir Michael Stoute won 6 of his 8 races including the 1981 Derby which he won by the biggest ever margin.
He also enjoyed very easy victories in both the Irish Derby and the Queen Elizabeth stakes but unfortunately this horse became more famous for what happened to him after he retired. Just 1 year after his retirement he was kidnapped and after ransom demands were issued the feeling was he was killed when the kidnappers panicked and we never knew what happened to this brilliant horse of his generation.

Nashwan
Willie Carson was the jockey lucky enough to ride this horse to all his horseracing victories.
This unbelievable horse is still the only horse to win the Derby, Eclipse, King George the IV, and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the same season and quite honestly that is one record that I can?t see being beaten for quite some years.
