Bet on Horseraces – Trainer Colm Murphy believes his horse Brave Inca can win the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Gold Cup event. The 11 year old won comfortably in the Toshiba Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. The 2006 Champion Hurdle winner had only just returned last Novemeber after injury had sidelined him for 19 months, but is showing signs of returning to his best form. Ridden by the experienced Ruby Walsh, he was made second favourite for the race at odds of 11-4.

The favourite, Sublimity, also a Cheltenham Festival winner, struggled on the soft ground and could only manage fourth place. This all sets up nicely for a strong looking field at Cheltenham this year, with previous winner Hardy Eustace and last year’s winner Katchit included in the stalls. Others to watch out for Snap Tie and the in-form Crack Away Jack. As for the Gold Cup race itself, punters will be glad to see that trainer Paul Nicholls has entered last year’s champion Denman, who has not raced since the last Gold Cup due to a heart problem. Former winner Kauto Star, also trained by Nicholls, isa also among the 38 entrants. Ireland’s main threat is from War of Attrition, the winner in 2006, but unfortunately Slim Pickings wont be there this year after having sustained a broken leg which meant he had to be put down.
